Sika Deer in Taiwan

2008
The Taiwan sika deer (Cervus nippon taiouanus) migrated to the island during land-bridge periods (40,000 to 10,000 years before present), presumably from an adjacent mainland China stock that later became extinct. On Taiwan they were found mainly at low elevation habitats around the island and reached great- est abundance on the large western coastal ...

Defecation of sika deer, Cervus nippon

Mammal Study, 2008
Abstract Defecation time, fecal amount, and water content of feces of sika deer, Cervus nippon, were studied for two deer kept in large-scale enclosures. The deer were observed eight times for 24 hours, and all the feces were collected immediately after defecation. The defecation interval varied considerably with a median of 21 min.

Notes on the Sika Deer

Journal of Mammalogy, 1956
When two men undertake so large a task as compiling a checklist of palae-arctic and Indian mammals, they cannot fairly be expected to escape some oversights. Such seem to have occurred in J. R. Ellerman's and T. C. S. Morrison-Scott's treatment of the sika deer.

Nonspecific Immunity in Sika Deer

1992
We investigated phagocytosis, complement, lysozyme, and immunoglobulins in domesticated sika deer (Cervus nippon) in the south of the Primorye Territory. We determined the physiological status of cellular and humoral links of nonspecific immunity depending on season, age, and sex.

In this chapter I review the history of introduction of sika to continental Europe by country and summarize their acclimatization to the local environment. Beginning about 150 years ago sika deer were introduced into most of the countries in western, central, and eastern Europe; northern and southern countries were less affected.

IRRUPTION OF A COLONIZING SIKA DEER POPULATION

Journal of Wildlife Management, 2004
Abstract Irruptions of ungulate populations have been observed, but little is known of their cause of initiation and termination. We documented an irruption of a naturally colonizing sika deer (Cervus nippon) population on Cape Shiretoko, Shiretoko Peninsula, northeastern Hokkaido, Japan, and we examined limiting factors on population growth.
