Silanizing Glassware

Current Protocols in Molecular Biology, 1994
AbstractThis unit presents a procedure to silanize (siliconize) glassware to prevent adsorption of solute to the glass surface or to increase its hydrophobicity. This is particularly important when dealing with low concentrations of particularly “sticky” solutes such as single‐stranded nucleic acids or proteins.

Thermal decomposition of silane

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1986
The essential features of the potential energy surface for the thermal decomposition of silane have been calculated with extended basis sets, augmented by correlation corrections. It is predicted that the transition state for the molecular elimination lies 56.9 kcal/mol above silane.
