Fabrication of silica aerogel composite blankets from an aqueous silica aerogel slurry

Ceramics International, 2018
Abstract Low-density silica aerogel composite blankets were successfully fabricated from silica aerogel slurries via an impregnation technique. Silica aerogel powder formed a stable slurry in a mixed ethanol/water solution with a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) binder.

Organically Modified Silica Aerogels

1994
Aerogels 1 are extremely porous materials which are usually prepared by supercritical drying of gels. Typical porosities of SiO2 aerogels are in the range of 85% to 98%, and densities as low as 3 kg/m3 have been reported. As a result of the high porosity, they have very interesting physical properties, such as a small index of refraction, a small Young’

Chemical Functionalization of Silica Aerogels

MRS Proceedings, 1996
Organofunctional silica aerogels were prepared by base catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation of Si(OR') 4 / RSi(OMe) 3 mixtures, followed by supercritical drying. In the trialkoxysilanes, R is of the type (CH 2 ) n A, the group A being an organic function.

Cellulose-silica hybrid aerogels

2013
Silica aerogels are well-known ultra-light materials with potential applications such as thermal superinsulation (thermal conductivity at ambient conditions < 0.020 W.m-1.K-1), but their mechanical fragility limits their large-scale usage. To reinforce silica aerogels, we used cellulose aerogel (“aerocellulose”) as a reinforcing matrix. We describe the
