Tapered fibers embedded in silica aerogel [PDF]
We have embedded thin tapered fibers (with diameters down to 1 microm) in silica aerogel with low loss. The aerogel is rigid but behaves refractively like air, protecting the taper without disturbing light propagation along it. This enables a new class of fiber devices exploiting volume evanescent interactions with the aerogel itself or with dopants or

Inclusion of [H3PW12O40] and [H4SiW12O40] into a silica gel matrix via "sol-gel" methodology [PDF]
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus. Here we report the inclusion of two Keggin Polyoxometalates (POMs), [H3PW12O40] and [H4SiW12O40], into silica gels by integrating them during the preparation of the SiO2 matrix via "sol-gel" methods.

We have selectively filled the core of hollow photonic crystal fibre with silica aerogel. Light is guided in the aerogel core, with a measured attenuation of 0.2 dB/cm at 1540 nm comparable to that of bulk aerogel. The structure guides light by different mechanisms depending on the wavelength.

Silica Aerogel Monoliths Derived from Silica Hydrosol with Various Surfactants
Owing to their ultra-low thermal conductivity, silica aerogels are promising thermal insulators; however, their extensive application is limited by their high production cost.

Silica aerogels have attracted great attention owing to their outstanding properties such as ultralow density, high porosity, high surface area, and low thermal conductivities. Their poor mechanical properties and hydrophilicity constrain their practical

Aerogels are today the lightest solids and the best thermal insulating materials in the world. Silica aerogels are the most common aerogels. On one hand, silica is inorganic, fire proof and thermal stable up to 900 °C; one the other hand, the material is

Morphology and thermal conductivity of model organic aerogels [PDF]
The intersection volume of two independent 2-level cut Gaussian random fields is proposed to model the open-cell microstructure of organic aerogels. The experimentally measured X-ray scattering intensity, surface area and solid thermal conductivity of ...
