The effect of silica sand on the diffusion of sodium ions in mixtures of montmorillonite and silica sand was studied by measuring the apparent diffusion coefficients, activation energies for diffusion, and the basal spacing of the mixed samples. These diffusion experiments suggest that the apparent diffusion coefficients of sodium ions in the mixed ...

Local silica sand as a silica source in the synthesis of Y zeolite
Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2022AbstractThe objective of this research is to generate Y zeolite using local silica sand as a source of silica via the hydrothermal method. Prior to synthesis, contaminants were removed from the local silica sand using hydrochloric acid, and Al2O3 was utilized as an aluminum source. Y zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized at 100± 1°C.

We have studied the transport of colloidal silica in various degrees of a water-saturated Toyoura sand column, because silica particles are widely used as catalyst carriers and abrasive agents, and their toxicity is reported recently. Since water-silica, water-sand, and air-water interfaces have pH-dependent negative charges, the magnitude of surface ...

Coating of silica sand with aluminosilicate clay
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2006The objective of this work was to coat aluminosilicate clays on an inert silica support, and to characterize the properties and stability of the clay-silica coating. Two polymers, polyacrylamide (PAM) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), were used to bind kaolinite, illite, and smectite onto silica grains.
