Direct laser sintering of a silica sand
Materials & Design, 2003As an application study of rapid prototyping, commercially available silica sand was successfully direct-laser-sintered in a self-developed high-temperature laser sintering equipment. The mechanism of powder-state sand becoming a solid state block during the laser sintering process was disclosed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy ...

Determination of silica sand stiffness
Engineering Geology, 2003Site investigation and evaluation of properties of soil or rock are important aspects of geotechnical design. Determination of the ground stiffness is one of the important parameters in geotechnical engineering. Since the measurement of shear modulus is very sensitive to soil disturbance, especially for sand, determination of the stiffness of soil in ...

Transport of malonate in a goethite–silica sand system
Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 1999Abstract The mobility of weak organic acids is of great importance for the transport of heavy metals and other contaminants. This work discusses the breakthrough behavior of malonic acid through a column packed with goethite coated sand. The transport of malonic acid is dominated by multicomponent chemical interactions of protons and the malonic acid

Laser Sintering of Silica Sand ? Mechanism and Application to Sand Casting Mould
International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2003Silica sand is commonly used in the foundry industry. With a high melting point of 160°C, the silica sand is normally sintered in a high-temperature furnace. However, silica with contents of calcium, aluminium, magnesium, and chlorine, etc. can form low-melting point eutectics.

The abrasive wear of silica sand agglomerates
Tribology International, 1993Abstract Processing of agglomerated particulate products can lead to attrition by abrasive wear as the agglomerates move relative to one another. In order to investigate this damage mechanism under controlled conditions, bar-shaped silica sand agglomerates of a range of strengths have been formed by addition of appropriate proportions of ...

Maturing of contacts and ageing of silica sand
Géotechnique, 2018A typical surface texture of silica sand grains is rich in asperities and mineral debris. Consequently, a nominal inter-granular contact is composed of many ‘contact points’. Associated with the contact loading process is micro-fracturing of the textural features, causing the contact to evolve.

Evaporation and Degradation of VX on Silica Sand
The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2009The evaporation and degradation of VX (O-ethyl S-[2-N,N-(diisopropylamino)ethyl] methylphosphonothioate) on silica sand and borosilicate glass were measured using vapor analysis and 31P solid state magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (SSMAS NMR) spectroscopy. 31P SSMAS NMR studies of VX degradation on crushed glass, air-dried sand, and oven-

The Discharge of Fine Silica Sands in a Silo
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009Numerous industrial processing operations involve the handling and transport of powders, bulk solids and granules. Silos and bins are widely used to store granular solids. Most theoretical and empirical equations for calculation of discharge rate of fine powders are overestimated when particles smaller than about 500 μm.

The discharge of fine silica sands in a silo
Physics of Fluids, 2010Numerous industrial processing operations involve the handling and transport of powders, bulk solids, and granules. Silos and bins are widely used to store granular solids, and it is imperative to be able to control the flow rate during the discharge of these solids from such equipment.
