Development of Piezoelectrically Driven Quasi-Static 2D MEMS Mirrors with Extremely Large FoV for Scanning LiDARs

open access: yesProceedings
In this paper, a piezoelectrically driven quasi-static MEMS mirror is developed for a scanning LiDAR system. Finite element method (FEM) simulations are used to optimize the design of the MEMS scanner.

PZT-Actuated and -Sensed Resonant Micromirrors with Large Scan Angles Applying Mechanical Leverage Amplification for Biaxial Scanning

open access: yesMicromachines, 2017
This article presents design, fabrication and characterization of lead zirconate titanate (PZT)-actuated micromirrors, which enable extremely large scan angle of up to 106° and high frequency of 45 kHz simultaneously.

Numerically Stable and Computationally Efficient Expression for the Magnetic Field of a Current Loop

open access: yesMagnetism, 2022
In this work, it is demonstrated that straightforward implementations of the well-known textbook expressions of the off-axis magnetic field of a current loop are numerically unstable in a large region of interest.

Application of silicon nanoparticles in agriculture

open access: yes3 Biotech, 2019
The beneficial effects of silicon and its role for plants are well established; however, the advantages of silicon nanoparticles over its bulk material are an area that is less explored.

Laser Metal Powder Deposition of Titanium Microalloyed HSLA Steel FeC0.12Si0.25Mn1.3

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the additive manufacturing of titanium‐doped high‐strength low‐alloy (HSLA) steel via laser metal deposition. It reveals distinct process‐structure relationships for elemental powder blends compared to prealloyed feedstocks.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Modelling of Evanescent Field Scattering

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
Evanescent field particle scattering is a promising method for single particle detection. In this study, we performed a detailed numerical analysis to show the possibilities and limitations of analytical models for predicting the capabilities of this ...

Silicon Microrefrigerator [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Components and Packaging Technologies, 2006
We fabricated a silicon microrefrigerator on a 500-mu m-thick substrate with the standard integrated circuit (IC) fabrication process. The cooler achieves a maximum cooling of 1 degrees C below ambient at room temperature. Simulations show that the cooling power density for a 40 x 40 mu m(2) device exceeds 500 W/cm(2). The unique three-dimensional (3-D)

Scalable synthesis of ant-nest-like bulk porous silicon for high-performance lithium-ion battery anodes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Although silicon is a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries, scalable synthesis of silicon anodes with good cyclability and low electrode swelling remains a significant challenge.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...
