Anisotropic Vapor HF etching of silicon dioxide for Si microstructure release

open access: yes, 2012
Damages are created in a sacrificial layer of silicon dioxide by ion implantation to enhance the etch rate of silicon-dioxide in liquid and vapor phase hydrofluoric acid.

Photoluminescence quantum efficiency of dense silicon nanocrystal ensembles in SiO2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The photoluminescence decay characteristics of silicon nanocrystals in dense ensembles fabricated by ion implantation into silicon dioxide are observed to vary in proportion to the calculated local density of optical states.

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Vapor grown silicon dioxide improves transistor base-collector junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Vapor grown silicon dioxide layer protects base-collector junction in silicon planar transistors during the emitter diffusion process. This oxide fills in any imperfections that exist in the thermally grown oxide layer and is of greater thickness than ...

Making graphene visible

open access: yes, 2007
Microfabrication of graphene devices used in many experimental studies currently relies on the fact that graphene crystallites can be visualized using optical microscopy if prepared on top of silicon wafers with a certain thickness of silicon dioxide. We

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Enhancing Si Solar Cells Efficiency by Using by adding SiO2 / TiO2 Thin Films using Transfer Matrix Method

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics, 2021
Thin film silicon solar cells are nowadays the best choice to get electricity due to their low cost compared to the crystalline solar cells. However, thin film silicon solar cells have weak absorption of incident light.

Macroporous silicon membranes as electron and x-ray transmissive windows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Macroporous silicon membranes are fabricated whose pores are terminated with 60 nm thin silicon dioxide shells. The transmission of electrons with energies of 5 kV-25 kV through these membranes was investigated reaching a maximum of 22% for 25 kV ...
