Enhancing Small Molecule Sensing With Aptameric Functionalized Nano Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Unveiling an ultra‐sensitive, non‐invasive neurotransmitter sensor. For the first time, a nanoscale sensor for detecting an important neurotransmitter was demonstrated using micro‐electromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Our approach utilized field‐effect transistor (FET)‐based readout to enable pico‐molar detection of biomarkers in sweat.

On giant piezoresistance effects in silicon nanowires and microwires

open access: yes, 2010
The giant piezoresistance (PZR) previously reported in silicon nanowires is experimentally investigated in a large number of surface depleted silicon nano- and micro-structures.

Silicon nanowire optical waveguide (SNOW)

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
In this paper, we propose a novel optical waveguide consisting of arrays of silicon nanowires in close proximity. We show that such a structure can guide an optical mode provided the electric field is polarized along the length of the nanowires. Furthermore, such guidance can happen even if the nanowires are arranged randomly albeit at a higher ...

Exciton Radiative Lifetimes in Hexagonal Diamond Ge and SixGe1–x Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Strong room‐temperature photoluminescence reported in hexagonal Ge conflicts with theory predicting a nearly dark band edge. First‐principles calculations of excitonic radiative lifetimes fill a key gap in this debate, showing that pristine hexagonal Ge remains intrinsically weakly emissive, while Si alloying only modestly shortens the lifetime and ...

Coherent Single Charge Transport in Molecular-Scale Silicon Nanowire Transistors

open access: yes, 2004
We report low-temperature electrical transport studies of molecule-scale silicon nanowires. Individual nanowires exhibit well-defined Coulomb blockade oscillations characteristic of charge addition to a single nanostructure with length scales up to at ...

Multimodal Actuation and Environment Adaptive Strategies of Bio‐Inspired Micro/Nanorobots in Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An introduction for multidrive and environment‐adaptive micro/nanorobotics: design and fabrication strategies, intelligent actuation, and their applications. Various intelligent actuation approaches—magnetic, acoustic, optical, chemical, and biological—can be synergistically designed to enhance flexibility and adaptive behavior for precision medicine ...

Influence of thin fluoropolymer film deposition on wettability of the silicon oxide nanowires array

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
In this work, we studied influence of fluoropolymer thin film deposition on wettability of the silicon oxide nanowires array. Deposition of fluoropolymer coating on the silicon oxide nanowires array changes the surface properties from hydrophilic to ...

Growth and Self-Assembly of Silicon–Silicon Carbide Nanoparticles into Hybrid Worm-Like Nanostructures at the Silicon Wafer Surface

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2018
This work describes the growth of silicon⁻silicon carbide nanoparticles (Si⁻SiC) and their self-assembly into worm-like 1D hybrid nanostructures at the interface of graphene oxide/silicon wafer (GO/Si) under Ar atmosphere at 1000 °C ...

Development of nanowire devices with quantum functionalities

open access: yes, 2015
Silicon has dominated the microelectronics industry for the last 50 years. With its zero nuclear spin isotope (28Si) and low spin orbit coupling, it is believed that silicon can become an excellent host material for an entirely new generation of devices ...
