In-situ characterization of the Hamamatsu R5912-HQE photomultiplier tubes used in the DEAP-3600 experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Hamamatsu R5912-HQE photomultiplier-tube (PMT) is a novel high-quantum efficiency PMT. It is currently used in the DEAP-3600 dark matter detector and is of significant interest for future dark matter and neutrino experiments where high signal yields ...

Acute glaucoma following vitrectomy and silicone oil injection. [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 1987
Three cases are described of acute glaucoma following vitrectomy and silicone oil injection in proliferative vitreous retinopathy. The first case developed silicone-induced pupillary block in a phakic eye. Cases 2 and 3 developed elevated pressure in aphakic eyes with deep anterior chambers. Cases 1 and 3 were treated by laser iridectomy.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Extreme cavity expansion in soft solids: damage without fracture

open access: yes, 2019
Cavitation is a common damage mechanism in soft solids. Here, we study this using a phase-separation technique in stretched, elastic solids to controllably nucleate and grow small cavities by several orders of magnitude.

Comparison of silicon oil removal with various viscosities after complex retinal detachment surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Background Despite the progress in vitreoretinal surgery and the importance of silicone oil as an adjunct for the treatment of complex forms of retinal detachment, controversy still surrounds the issue of selecting the proper oil viscosity for clinical ...

Presumed silicone oil droplets following intravitreal bevacizumab injection

open access: yesKerala Journal of Ophthalmology, 2023
A 67-year-old male presented with loss of vision in the right eye of 3-month duration. He was diagnosed as superotemporal branch retinal vein occlusion with macular edema and was treated with 4 monthly intravitreal bevacizumab injections. Following the fourth injection, multiple tiny presumed silicone oil droplets were noted in the vitreous.
