Materials exist that are useful for gamma scintillation, radiation shielding, neutron‐gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD), thermal neutron detection, or high refractive index applications. While certain materials have exhibited optimal performance for each of these applications, none achieve multiple functions.

Fluorine‐Free Soft Nanocomposites for High‐Speed Liquid Impact Repellence
Fluorine‐free soft nanocomposite coatings are developed using silicone oil‐mediated mechanical‐stiffness control, enabling ‘dry’ liquid‐repellent surfaces that resist high‐speed water jet impacts up to ∼60 m/s. By tuning nanoparticle loading and oil content, the coatings also achieve >90% optical transparency, amphiphobicity with impact resistance to ...

Influence of the PDMS substrate stiffness on the adhesion of Acanthamoeba castellanii
Background: Mechanosensing of cells, particularly the cellular response to substrates with different elastic properties, has been discovered in recent years, but almost exclusively in mammalian cells.

Sources and transport of silicone NVR [PDF]
The retrieved LDEF had varying amounts of visible contamination films (brown stains) at many locations. FTIR spectra of heavy film deposits at vents and of optical windows from tray E5 indicated methyl silicone and silica in the contaminant films.

MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Iron-catalyzed depolymerizations of end-of-life silicones with fatty alcohols [PDF]
During the last decades, polymers became one of the major materials in our society and a future without polymers is hardly imaginable. However, as negative issue of this success enormous amount of end-of-life materials are accumulated, which are mainly ...

Nanolayer‐Encapsulated Stretchable Liquid‐Metal Sheets for Thermal Management
A stretchable liquid metal sheet with both high thermal conductivity and mechanical flexibility is developed. Its trilayer structure, comprising copper‐particle‐dispersed gallium liquid metal encapsulated by styrene‐butadiene‐styrene nanosheets, shows 40.4 W m−1 K−1 conductivity, elongation exceeding 200%, and retention of 96% of its initial ...
