The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effects of surface treatment on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of silorane-based composites (Filtek Silorane, 3M ESPE) repaired with methacrylate-based composites (Ceram X, Dentsply). The MTBS were measured before or after thermo-mechanical fatigue simulation (FS).

Silorane-based Dental Composite: Behavior and Abilities
The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of an innovative composite material for dental restorations based on silorane--a monomer with a new chemical composition, and thereby compare the examined characteristics against those of well-known methacrylate-based composites.

Bonding of a Silorane‐Based Composite System to Bone [PDF]
AbstractThis work was to analyze by Weibull statistics the shear bond strength of a low‐shrink Silorane‐based composite system to bone. The etching abilities of the adhesives were investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Results suggest that an effective and reliable bond to bone could be achieved by the Silorane‐based composite system, showing ...

Siloranes in dental composites
Dental Materials, 2005The purpose of this study was to compare the product profile of a Silorane based composite which polymerizes by a cationic ring opening process with the product profile of different methacrylate based restoratives.Four methacrylate based materials Filtek Z250, Filtek P60,Tetric ceram, Spectrum TPH and a Silorane based material were investigated with ...

Repairability of dental siloranes in vitro
Dental Materials, 2011Aim of the study was the investigation of the repairability of a silorane (Filtek Silorane, 3M Espe, Seefeld, Germany) after different surface pretreatments in vitro.54 silorane specimens (5 mm × 5 mm × 5 mm) were fabricated and stored in saline solution (24 h/37°C). Their surface was polished with abrasive paper (600 grit), etched with phosphoric acid

Stability of silorane dental monomers in aqueous systems
Journal of Dentistry, 2006Siloranes (silicon-based monomers with oxirane functionality) are investigated as matrix resins for new low shrinkage/stress dental composites. Compounds containing oxirane groups are known to be reactive with water, which could impart instability to the composite. To test the stability of siloranes by measuring changes in the chemical structure of the ...
