Repair of silorane-based dental composites: Influence of surface treatments

open access: yesDental Materials, 2012
The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effects of surface treatment on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of repaired silorane-based composites (Filtek Silorane (Silorane), 3M ESPE).The surfaces of the aged Silorane blocks (6 mm × 6 mm × 5 mm) were ground with 320-grit SiC paper.

TEM characterization of a silorane composite bonded to enamel/dentin

Dental Materials, 2010
The low-shrinking composite composed of combined siloxane-oxirane technology (Filtek Silorane, 3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) required the development of a specific adhesive (Silorane System Adhesive, 3M ESPE), in particular because of the high hydrophobicity of the silorane composite.

How to repair fillings made by silorane-based composites

Clinical Oral Investigations, 2010
In 2007, the low shrinkage silorane-based composites with a completely new resin chemistry were introduced. As for the case of composite repair, the question of whether this new material class can be repaired with the same methods like dimethacrylate-based composites arises.

Flexural Properties of Silorane Bone Cement

ASME 2011 Summer Bioengineering Conference, Parts A and B, 2011
There has been little change in the formulation of bone cements since Sir John Charnley first developed them in the 1970s. Bone cements are methacrylate based systems packaged in two components [1]. The powder component contains a mixture of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), methyl methacrylate-styrene-copolymer, and a radio opacifier (either barium ...

Tetraoxaspiroalkanes for polymerization stress reduction of Silorane resins

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2008
AbstractThis study involved the synthesis and characterization of tetraoxaspiroalkane monomers and evaluated their potential to reduce polymerization stress when formulated in a Silorane resin system. The tetraoxaspiroalkane monomers had two main structural features (a) two different types of core ring structures (a 1,5,7,11‐tetraoxaspirocyclic ring or

Streptococcal adhesion to novel low-shrink silorane-based restorative

Dental Materials, 2009
The aim of the present study was to compare the susceptibility of one novel silorane-based and four widely used conventional methacrylate-based resin composites to adhere oral streptococci and to relate any differences to surface roughness, hydrophobicity and type of matrix.Specimens of restoratives Filtek Silorane, Filtek Z250, Tetric EvoCeram ...

Incremental layers bonding of silorane composite: The initial bonding properties

Journal of Dentistry, 2008
Lack of oxygen inhibition layer of silorane composite with cationic polymerization raises the question of the bonding of incremental layers of the composite. This study aimed to evaluate the bond strength of the silorane composite layers.Fresh, 20 s, 5 min aged silorane composite (Silorane, 3M-ESPE) was used as substrate to adhere new silorane ...
