Intraspecific trait variation of carrion beetle species and communities across elevations

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 17, Issue 6, Page 1113-1126, November 2024.
For 7 of the 12 traits examined in carrion beetles at different elevations, most of the variation was attributed to intraspecific variation, followed by differences between species. Species niche breadth, as indicated by trait range at a given elevation, was positively correlated with relative abundance.

Seasonal Patterns of Resource Use Within Natural Populations of Burying Beetles

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2024.
We present experimental evidence of seasonal variation in resource use within natural populations of a necrophagous insect that requires small vertebrate carrion for reproduction. Seasonal patterns of carrion use by wild burying beetles are associated with differences in their reproductive success and cuticular hydrocarbon profiles. Our results provide
