Silver nanowires

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal D, 2005
Free silver nanowires were produced in aqueous electrolyte by a novel chemical reaction. Their diameters are about 27 nm, the lengths range up to more than 70 μm, yielding extreme length to thickness-ratios up to 2500.

Silver nanowires: Synthesis technologies, growth mechanism and multifunctional applications

open access: yesMaterials Science and Engineering B: Solid-State Materials for Advanced Technology, 2017
Silver nanowires have attracted a lot of attention in both academia and industry because of their potential applications in many electronic devices. In the past decade, there have been many research articles relating to silver nanowires, but there have ...

Ultrasonic Bending of Silver Nanowires

ACS Nano, 2020
We study silver nanowires as a model for the mechanical effects of ultrasonication. Their bending is caused by the outward push of shock waves against the inertia and fluid resistance. The structural analyses of a large number of cases reveal the principles of the mechanical effects on the freely suspended colloidal nanostructures.

Microstructure-Hardened Silver Nanowires

Nano Letters, 2006
To exploit the novel size-dependent mechanical properties of nanowires, it is necessary for one to develop strategies to control the strength and toughness of these materials. Here, we report on the mechanical properties of silver nanowires with a unique fivefold twin structure using a lateral force atomic force microscopy (AFM) method in which wires ...

Silver Chloride as a Heterogeneous Nucleant for the Growth of Silver Nanowires

ACS Nano, 2013
Various additives are employed in the polyol synthesis of silver nanowires (Ag NWs), which are typically halide salts such as NaCl. A variety of mechanistic roles have been suggested for these additives. We now show that the early addition of NaCl in the polyol synthesis of Ag NWs from AgNO3 in ethylene glycol results in the rapid formation of AgCl ...

Silver nanowire-functionalized cotton fabric

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2015
In this study, general functionalization of cotton fabric by loading silver nanowires (AgNWs) on cotton surface is reported. Initially, AgNWs were synthesized by a polyol process and then were conformal coated onto individual cotton fibers through a simple "dip and dry" process.

Ultrasonication assisted production of silver nanowires with low aspect ratio and their optical properties

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2015
We investigated a facial method to produce silver nanowires with low aspect ratio by fragmentizing as produced long silver nanowires. The length of silver nanowires can be shortened in a controllable manner by increasing ultrasonication time or ...

Silver nanowire decorated heatable textiles

Nanotechnology, 2016
The modification of insulating fabrics with electrically conductive nanomaterials has opened up a novel application field. With the help of Joule heating mechanism, conductive fabrics can be used as mobile heaters. In this work, heatable textiles are fabricated using silver nanowires (Ag NWs). Cotton fabrics are decorated with polyol synthesized Ag NWs

Diameter-dependent coloration of silver nanowires

Nanotechnology, 2011
Silver nanowires were synthesized with a green method and characterized with microscopic and diffractometric methods. The correlation between the colors of the nanowires deposited on a solid substrate and their diameters was explored. Silver nanowires that appear similar in color in the optical micrographs have very similar diameters as determined by ...

Silver Nanowires as Surface Plasmon Resonators

Physical Review Letters, 2005
We report on chemically prepared silver nanowires (diameters around 100 nm) sustaining surface plasmon modes with wavelengths shortened to about half the value of the exciting light. As we find by scattered light spectroscopy and near-field optical microscopy, the nonradiating character of these modes together with minimized damping due to the well ...
