Beyond silver staining

Nature, 1992
Proteins separated on sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gels can be detected in subpicogram quantities by radioactivation of silver-treated protein molecules.

Silver staining of ribosomal proteins

Journal of Cell Science, 1971
ABSTRACT The effects of staining several tissues with silver nitrate were studied in the electron microscope. Tissues were fixed in 2 % glutaraldehyde buffered to pH 7·3 and containing 0·22 M sucrose, some being post-osmicated. Staining was effected by immersion of Araldite sections in unbuffered 5 % silver nitrate for 30 min.

Mass Spectrometry-Compatible Silver Staining

Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2007
INTRODUCTIONThe ammoniacal silver staining method is one of the most sensitive methods used to detect proteins on an SDS-PAGE gel. However, this and other standard silver staining methods are not compatible with mass spectrometry (MS), which is fast becoming the best way to identify proteins isolated on 2D gels.

Histone Staining with Ammoniacal Silver

Science, 1964
Under controlled conditions, ammoniacal silver (A-S) stains the bands of Dipteran salivary gland chromosomes in a precise and selective manner. Such staining is dependent upon the histone content of the band, as shown by the effects of selective extraction and blocking of the histones.

Microwave-stimulated immunogold silver staining

The Histochemical Journal, 1988
The effect of microwave-generated energy for the demonstration of immunoglobulins in periodate lysine paraformaldehyde dichromate fixed paraffin sections of human reactive tonsil using the immunogold silver staining technique has been evaluated. Results of the study show that microwave stimulation permits incubation times of both the primary antibody ...

Detection of DNA by Silver Staining

2003
Silver stains are widely used for the detection of both proteins and nucleic acids in acrylamide gels or on various membranes. They have several advantages over conventional staining methods, including the ability to detect very small amounts of material, while avoiding the hazards of other detection systems, such as ethidium bromide or radio-isotopes.

Silver Staining Techniques of Polyacrylamide Gels

2012
After SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis the separated proteins have to be visualized by staining the gel. The same is true after transfer of separated proteins to a blotting membrane in order to verify an efficient transfer and to visualize the amount of protein(s) remaining in the gel.
