Immune Profile and MRI-Detected Cardiac Fibrosis and Edema in Hypertensive and Non-Hypertensive Patients with COVID-19. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Clin Med
Cardiac involvement in 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) survivors has been reported frequently. An exacerbated immune response may be the main mechanism of myocardial injury and late cardiac sequelae in this population.

IL-1β enhances susceptibility to atrial fibrillation in mice by acting through resident macrophages and promoting caspase-1 expression. [PDF]

open access: yesNat Cardiovasc Res
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is more prevalent in patients with elevated interleukin (IL)-1β levels. Here we show that daily administration of IL-1β for 15 days sensitizes mice to AF, leading to fibrosis, accumulation of β-pleated sheet proteins in the left ...

AMAZONIA CAMTRAP: A data set of mammal, bird, and reptile species recorded with camera traps in the Amazon forest

open access: yesEcology, Volume 103, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
Abstract The Amazon forest has the highest biodiversity on Earth. However, information on Amazonian vertebrate diversity is still deficient and scattered across the published, peer‐reviewed, and gray literature and in unpublished raw data. Camera traps are an effective non‐invasive method of surveying vertebrates, applicable to different scales of time

Roadkill patterns in Latin American birds and mammals

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 31, Issue 9, Page 1756-1783, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Aim Roads are a major threat for wildlife, degrading habitat and causing mortality via wildlife–vehicle collisions. In Latin America, the conjunction of high biodiversity and a rapidly expanding road network is reason for concern. We introduce an approach that combines species traits and habitat preferences to describe vulnerability and map ...

Limited temporal response of Cerrado mammals to anthropogenic pressure in areas under distinct levels of protection

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 317, Issue 1, Page 43-55, May 2022., 2022
We used camera trap data to investigate whether Cerrado mammals would shift part of their activity towards the night in response to anthropogenic pressure. Our results revealed that 12 out of 14 species investigated did not show a temporal response to pressure.

New Insights on the Mechanisms of Myocardial Injury in Hypertensive Patients With COVID-19

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Immunology, 2023
Myocardial injury is common in hypertensive patients with 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Immune dysregulation could be associated to cardiac injury in these patients, but the underlying mechanism has not been fully elucidated.
