Polysaccharides from Silybum marianum
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2017Carbohydrates from the aerial part of Silybum marianum were studied. The monosaccharide composition was characterized. It was found that the water-soluble polysaccharide was an arabinogalactan in which the main chain consisted of β-1,4-bonded galactopyranoses with arabinose and glucose residues in side branches.

Flavolignans of Silybum marianum Fruit
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2001The chemical composition of fruit from spotted milkweed [Silybum marianum(L.) Gaertn.] cultivated in Samara district was investigated using UV and1H-NMR spectroscopies and mass spectrometry. Chemical transformations identify the flavolignans silybin, silydianin, silychristin, and 2,3-dehydrosilybin.

Ceska a Slovenska farmacie : casopis Ceske farmaceuticke spolecnosti a Slovenske farmaceuticke spolecnosti, 2004
Callus and suspension cultures of Silybum marianum were derived and the growth and production characteristics were assayed. The maximal production of flavonolignans was achieved at the beginning of cultivation, i.e. on day 10 after inoculation in MS medium with alpha-NAA and on day 15 after inoculation in MS medium with 2.4-D with continuous growth of ...

Flavonolignans from Silybum marianum L.
2002A new serie of potential MDR modulators was prepared with flavanolignans from Silybum marianum (L.). The major compound, silybin, was submitted to hemisynthetic steps in order to increase its activity. Results of biological evaluations have shown that silybin derivatives constitute excellent potential modulators.
