A simheuristic approach for the stochastic team orienteering problem
2017 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC), 2017The team orienteering problem is a variant of the well-known vehicle routing problem in which a set of vehicle tours are constructed in such in a way that: (i) the total collected reward received from visiting a subset of customers is maximized; and (ii) the length of each vehicle tour is restricted by a pre-specified limit.

Using simheuristics to promote horizontal collaboration in stochastic city logistics
Progress in Artificial Intelligence, 2017This paper analyzes the role of horizontal collaboration (HC) concepts in urban freight transportation under uncertainty scenarios. The paper employs different stochastic variants of the well-known vehicle routing problem (VRP) in order to contrast a non-collaborative scenario with a collaborative one.

Sustainable urban freight transport: A simheuristic approach
2017 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC), 2017In modern society, sustainable transportation practices in smart cities are becoming increasingly important for both companies and citizens. This paper addresses a rich extension of the capacitated vehicle routing problem, which considers sustainability indicators and stochastic traveling times.

A Simheuristic for the Stochastic Two-Echelon Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem
2020 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC), 2020Two-echelon distribution systems are very common in last-mile supply chains and urban logistics systems. The problem consists of delivering goods from one depot to a set of satellites usually located outside urban areas and from there to a set of geographically dispersed customers.

In this paper, we consider the stochastic team orienteering problem with dynamic rewards (STOPDR) and stochastic travel times. In the STOPDR, the goal is to generate routes for a fixed set of vehicles such that the sum of the rewards collected is maximized while ensuring that nodes are visited before a fixed time limit expires.

A Simheuristic for the Heterogeneous Site-Dependent Asymmetric VRP with Stochastic Demands
2016Rich Vehicle Routing Problems (RVRPs) refer to complex and realistic extensions of the classical Vehicle Routing Problem. They constitute a hot topic in logistics due to their high number of relevant applications. This work focuses on a RVRP with the following characteristics: (a) heterogeneous fleet of vehicles, (b) site-dependency, i.e., not all ...

On the use of biased randomization and simheuristics to solve Vehicle and Arc Routing Problems
Proceedings of the Winter Simulation Conference 2014, 2014This paper reviews the main concepts and existing literature related to the use of biased randomization of classical heuristics and the combination of simulation with meta-heuristics (Simheuristics) in order to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems, both of deterministic and stochastic nature, in the popular field of Vehicle and Arc Routing
