A Note on Superspirals of Confluent Type

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
Superspirals include a very broad family of monotonic curvature curves, whose radius of curvature is defined by a completely monotonic Gauss hypergeometric function.

The hyperbolic geometry of financial networks

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Based on data from the European banking stress tests of 2014, 2016 and the transparency exercise of 2018 we construct networks of European banks and demonstrate that the latent geometry of these financial networks can be well-represented by geometry of ...

Problems with Cosine as a Measure of Embedding Similarity for High Frequency Words [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics, 2022
Cosine similarity of contextual embeddings is used in many NLP tasks (e.g., QA, IR, MT) and metrics (e.g., BERTScore). Here, we uncover systematic ways in which word similarities estimated by cosine over BERT embeddings are understated and trace this ...

Using the Van Hiele Theory to Explain Pre-Service Teachers’ Understanding of Similarity in Euclidean Geometry

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2023
Helping learners to develop a solid grasp of geometric concepts poses a challenge for teachers. Therefore, it is important that teachers have a sound understanding of the geometry they teach.

Geometry- and Accuracy-Preserving Random Forest Proximities [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2022
Random forests are considered one of the best out-of-the-box classification and regression algorithms due to their high level of predictive performance with relatively little tuning.

The topology and geometry of neural representations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2023
Significance Characterizing the representations encoded in patterns of neural activity is key to understanding brain computation. Representational similarity analysis uses the geometry of neural population response patterns to compare representations ...

Improving neural implicit surfaces geometry with patch warping [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2021
Neural implicit surfaces have become an important technique for multi-view 3D reconstruction but their accuracy remains limited. In this paper, we argue that this comes from the difficulty to learn and render high frequency textures with neural networks.

Comparison of Single-Site Ionospheric Delays Derived from Geometry-Free and Geometry-Based Approaches with an Analysis of Orbit and Clock Error Effects

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
The reparameterization of the geometry-free and geometry-based approaches to derive single-site ionospheric delays using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements is described.

SliceMatch: Geometry-Guided Aggregation for Cross-View Pose Estimation [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2022
This work addresses cross-view camera pose estimation, i.e., determining the 3-Degrees-of-Freedom camera pose of a given ground-level image w.r.t. an aerial image of the local area.

Geometry Optimization of Self‐Similar Transport Network [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2011
We optimize geometries of various self‐similar transport networks using a three‐step strategy based on the entransy theory. Using this optimization method, we obtained optimal relationships of geometric parameters of T‐shape networks for fluid flow, heat conduction, convective heat transfer, and other transport phenomena.
