On Similarity Solutions to the Multidimensional Aggregation Equation [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2011
We study similarity solutions to the multidimensional aggregation equation $u_t+\Div(uv)=0$, $v=-\nabla K*u$ with general power-law kernels $K(x)=|x|^α,α\in (2-d,2)$. We analyze the equation in different regimes of the parameter $α$. In the case when $α\in [4-d,2)$, we give a characterization all the "first kind" radially symmetric similarity solutions.

Mobile device impairment … similar problems, similar solutions? [PDF]

open access: possibleBehaviour & Information Technology, 2011
Previous studies have defined a new type of impairment in which an able-bodied user's behaviour is impaired by both the characteristics of a device and the environment in which it is used. This behavioural change is defined as a situationally-induced impairment and is often associated with small devices used in a mobile setting or constrained ...

On Obtaining Non-Similar Solutions from Similar Solutions

1985
We have seen in the earlier chapters, that a similarity representation is obtainable for a boundary value problem provided the governing differential equations and the associated boundary conditions are invariant under a group of transformations. However, if any of the equations and boundary conditions is not invariant under a group, then the problem ...

Similar Solutions in Magnetohydrodynamics

Journal of the Aerospace Sciences, 1962
T J ECENTLY, Reeves and Kippenhan found a particular class of •*-V. similar solutions of the two-dimensional equations of motion and energy of an incompressible, viscous fluid. The equations analyzed were not subjected to boundary-layer simplifications.

The solutions similarity of the similar conflicts

Computer Science and Mathematical Modelling, 2018
The work deals with the examination of solutions similarity of similar conflicts, presented in the form of multiperson cooperative games. There is examined the similarity of the two most well-known in the literature concepts of the cooperative game solutions: Shapley solution and nucleolus (Schmeidler solution [9]). The work presents an idea of using a

When Similar Problems Don’t Have Similar Solutions

2007
The performance of a Case-Based Reasoning system relies on the integrity of its case base but in real life applications the available data used to construct the case base invariably contains erroneous, noisy cases. Automated removal of these noisy cases can improve system accuracy. In addition, error rates for nearest neighbour classifiers can often be

Learning Similarity Metrics from Case Solution Similarity

2006
Defining similarity metrics is one of the most important tasks when developing Case Based Reasoning (CBR) systems. The performance of the system heavily depends on the correct definition of its similarity metric. To reduce this sensitivity, similarity functions are parameterized with weights for features.
