Biomimetic Process Utilizing a Simulated Body Fluid

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, 2005
Hydroxyapatite has been used not only as a bone-repairing material in clinical applications but also as a functional material in the biological field, since it shows high biological affinity and specific characteristics on protein adsorption. It is expected that coating of substrates with a layer of hydroxyapatite will increase its potential ...

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire‐8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age among People with Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Preparation of Calcium Phosphate Bioceramic Powders Synthesized in Simulated Body Fluid Media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study, calcium phosphate bioceramics powders were synthesized using Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2HPO4 as the precursor by a biomimetic process. The condition of the synthesizing process is set mimicking the human physiological environment.

Reconstructing Cosmic Peculiar Velocities from the Mildly Nonlinear Density Field

open access: yes, 1999
We present a numerical study of the cosmic density vs. velocity divergence relation (DVDR) in the mildly non-linear regime. We approximate the dark matter as a non-relativistic pressureless fluid, and solve its equations of motion on a grid fixed in ...
