A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Recent insights into the molecular mechanism of ubiquinol oxidation by cytochrome bc1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The review reflects on the mechanism of the catalytic reaction in cytochrome bc1: the electron bifurcation that involves the separation of two electrons derived from the quinol oxidation to opposite sides of the enzyme across the membrane. This review summarizes the long‐standing effort to understand the mechanism of quinol oxidation catalyzed by ...

A dual-inexact fuzzy stochastic model for water resources management and non-point source pollution mitigation under multiple uncertainties [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2014
In this research, a dual-inexact fuzzy stochastic programming (DIFSP) method was developed for supporting the planning of water and farmland use management system considering the non-point source pollution mitigation under uncertainty.

Testing strategies for simulation optimization [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 19th conference on Winter simulation - WSC '87, 1987
There is increasing interest in science and industry in the optimization of computer simulation models. Often these models are not Monte-Carlo simulations, but consist of systems of differential equations, or other mathematical models. These models can present special problems to numerical optimization methods. First, derivatives are often unavailable.

Fluorination: A strategy to tune the interactions of molecules and nanoscale systems with biological matter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This minireview explores fluorination as a key strategy to optimize therapeutic molecules and nanocarriers. By incorporating different fluorinated motifs—from single atoms to linear and branched chains—drug delivery, cellular uptake, and colloidal stability can be improved and fine‐tuned.

Predictive Ability of Plasma p‐tau217 for β‐Amyloid Status: A Prospective Multicenter Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma tau phosphorylated at threonine 217 (p‐tau217) measured with fully automated platforms has shown high accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, but real‐world multicenter data remain limited. We aimed to validate the diagnostic performance of p‐tau217 for identifying AD pathology in a real‐world multicenter cohort ...

Efficient prediction of aerodynamic forces in rarefied flow using convolutional neural network based multi-process method

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) is a widely used approach for studying aerodynamics effects of rarefied flows, but it is highly time-consuming and may exhibit statistical fluctuations.
