Piezo1 channels enhance anabolic signaling activation induced by electrical stimulation of cultured myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Soman induces endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis of cerebral organoids via the GRP78‐ATF6‐CHOP signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cerebral organoids were employed as a novel model to explore the neurotoxicity of soman. Soman inhibited acetylcholinesterase activity, increased cell apoptosis and upregulated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress markers glucose‐regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP).

Consent to medical student teaching: an observational, cross-sectional study exploring the patient view

open access: yesBMC Medical Education
Background New Zealand guidelines stipulate that patient consent is obtained for medical student involvement in clinical care, however, patients’ preferences regarding consent for medical student teaching have not been widely explored.

Promoting leadership and communication skills in emergency medicine residents: the role of High-Fidelity Simulation

open access: yesEmergency Care Journal
The residency program in Emergency Medicine should include formal training in Non-Technical Skills (NTS). We evaluated the effectiveness of a program based on High-Fidelity Simulation (HFS) to improve the leadership and communication skills of residents

Fluid Simulation System Based on Graph Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Traditional computational fluid dynamics calculates the physical information of the flow field by solving partial differential equations, which takes a long time to calculate and consumes a lot of computational resources. We build a fluid simulation simulator based on the graph neural network architecture. The simulator has fast computing speed and low

Distributed agent-based building evacuation simulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The optimisation of the evacuation of a building plays a fundamental role in emergency situations. The behaviour of individuals, the directions that civilians receive, and the actions of the emergency personnel, will affect the success of the operation ...

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

How to include medical students in your healthcare simulation centre workforce

open access: yesAdvances in Simulation, 2020
Running simulation centre activities requires a substantial amount of human resources. Here we present ideas on how medical students can be integrated into the simulation centre workforce to support the goal of delivering simulation-based education.

Quantum Isomorphic Simulation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1997
A new type of quantum simulator is proposed which can simulate any quantum many-body system in an isomorphic manner. It can actually synthesize a duplicate of the system to be simulated. The isomorphic simulation has the great advantage that the inevitable coupling of the simulator to the environment can be fully exploited in simulating thermodynamic ...

On the Simulation of Hypervisor Instructions for Accurate Timing Simulation of Virtualized Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Architectural simulators help in better understanding the behaviour of existing architectures and the design of new architectures. Virtualization has regained importance and this has put a pressing demand for the simulation of virtualized systems. Existing full-system simulators for virtualized systems simulate the application program instructions and ...
