Allometric equations to estimate above-ground biomass of small-diameter mixed tree species in secondary tropical forests

open access: yesiForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, 2020
Accounting for small-size tree biomass is critical to improve total stand biomass estimates of secondary tropical forests, and is essential to quantify their vital role in mitigating climate change.

Simultaneous Optimization of an IGCC Process with Equation-Oriented Methods

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2021
Simultaneous optimization of process flowsheets using equation-oriented (EO) methods is a promising alternative to simulation studies. With the use of EO methods, simultaneous optimization of all process units including heat integration can be performed ...

Identification and Estimation in an Incoherent Model of Contagion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper deals with the issues of identification and estimation in the canonical model of contagion advanced in Pesaran and Pick (2007). The model is a two-equation nonlinear simultaneous equations system with endogenous dummy variables; it also ...

Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of Integrative Neuromuscular Training for Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Pilot Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long‐term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during ...

On the Interpretation of Instrumental Variables in the Presence of Specification Errors

open access: yesEconometrics, 2015
The method of instrumental variables (IV) and the generalized method of moments (GMM), and their applications to the estimation of errors-in-variables and simultaneous equations models in econometrics, require data on a sufficient number of instrumental ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

USING SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS MODELS TO ANALYZE THE CAUSES OF CORRUPTION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges of the Knowledge Society, 2011
For a country that is in the process of integration into EU structures, reducing the corruption is a good sign for attracting foreign investment and developing the economic environment.

Spatio-temporal dynamics induced by competing instabilities in two asymmetrically coupled nonlinear evolution equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pattern formation often occurs in spatially extended physical, biological and chemical systems due to an instability of the homogeneous steady state.
