FITEXC – DIFFRACTION PROFILE FITTING PROGRAM RUN IN MS EXCEL
We present our custom made diffraction fitting program FitExc for the basic treatment of the 1D diffraction profiles, in particular, the Intensity(2θ) of X-ray, synchrotron or neutron diffraction measurements. In the current state, the program allows for

Determination of Parabolic Rate Constants from a Local Analysis of Mass-Gain Curves [PDF]
A method is proposed to allow a more accurate evaluation of thermogravimetric data to identify diffusion or partial diffusion control of scaling kinetics. This method is based on the fitting of mass-gain data to a parabola over a short time interval. The

Simultaneous fitting of X-ray and neutron diffuse scattering data [PDF]
Conventional crystallographic refinement uses the Bragg-peak intensities and gives the single-site average crystal structure. Information about short-range order and local order is contained in the diffuse scattering that is distributed throughout reciprocal space. Models of the short-range order in materials can now be automatically refined.

Reducing Zero-point Systematics in Dark Energy Supernova Experiments [PDF]
We study the effect of filter zero-point uncertainties on future supernova dark energy missions. Fitting for calibration parameters using simultaneous analysis of all Type Ia supernova standard candles achieves a significant improvement over more ...

Weighing the ocean with bottom-pressure sensors: robustness of the ocean mass annual cycle estimate [PDF]
We use ocean bottom-pressure measurements from 17 tropical sites to determine the annual cycle of ocean mass. We show that such a calculation is robust, and use three methods to estimate errors in the mass determination.

Improved allometric models to estimate the aboveground biomass of younger secondary tropical forests
Frequent human activities have resulted in a large number of tropical old-growth forests being replaced by secondary forests at different succession stages.

Likelihood-based inference for max-stable processes [PDF]
The last decade has seen max-stable processes emerge as a common tool for the statistical modeling of spatial extremes. However, their application is complicated due to the unavailability of the multivariate density function, and so likelihood-based ...
