Pruritus and brain tumours: A prospective and descriptive study

open access: yesSkin Health and Disease, Volume 3, Issue 3, June 2023., 2023
Pruritus, especially localised to the nostrils, has been reported as a specific sign of brain tumours by many authors. This prospective and descriptive study did not show clear evidence of specifically localised pruritus induced by brain tumours. Thus, pruritus of the nostrils should no longer be considered as a specific sign of brain tumours. Abstract

CDF‐net: A convolutional neural network fusing frequency domain and spatial domain features

open access: yesIET Computer Vision, Volume 17, Issue 3, Page 319-329, April 2023., 2023
In this paper, we proposed a new network architecture named CDF‐Net, which fuses spatial domain and frequency domain features and enhance the performance of original network. Abstract Convolutional neural network (CNN), as a classic deep learning algorithm, has been applied to various computer vision tasks. However, most classic CNN models focus on the

Polyctenidae (Hemiptera: Cimicoidea) species in the Afrotropical region: Distribution, host specificity, and first insights to their molecular phylogeny

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 10, October 2022., 2022
Polyctenidae bugs are very rare, hematophagous, highly specialized ectoparasites of bats. In this study, we demonstrate the first molecular phylogeny of the family Polyctenidae, showing their phylogenetic relationship with the closely related family Cimicidae.

Cold ablation robot‐guided laser osteotomy in hand, wrist and forearm surgery—A feasibility study

open access: yesThe International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 5, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Introduction Traditional bone surgery using saws and chisels is associated with direct contact of instruments with the bone causing friction, heat and pressure and hence, damaging the bone and the surrounding soft tissues. Method Cold ablation laser osteotomy offers new possibilities to perform corrective osteotomies in the field of bone ...

Few‐sample multi‐objective optimisation of a double‐sided tubular machine with hybrid segmented permanent magnet

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 16, Issue 9, Page 953-965, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Double‐sided tubular machine (DSTM) is very suitable for wave energy conversion but easily suffers from high thrust ripple. In order to get the minimum cogging force with the maximum thrust force, a new DSTM with hybrid segmented permanent magnet array is proposed and optimised by a novel iterative few‐sample multi‐objective optimisation ...

Wireless IoT universal approach based on Allan variance method for detection of artificial vibration signatures of a DC motor's shaft and reconstruction of the reference signal

open access: yesIET Wireless Sensor Systems, Volume 12, Issue 3-4, Page 81-92, June-August 2022., 2022
Abstract In this paper, a workbench for remote control of DC motors is proposed. We intend to monitor and control rotating machines. Artificial failures are simulated by injecting different signals into the rotating motor's shaft. A comprehensive, original, and novel approach combining mathematical models, physical phenomena, and smart measurement ...
