Electrical and spin switches in single‐molecule junctions

open access: yesInfoMat, 2020
Single‐molecule electrical and spin switches have been one of the main research focuses in molecular electronics and spintronics because they may form the most important elements for the future information technology, thus attracting great attention in ...

Current rectification in a single molecule diode: the role of electrode coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We demonstrate large rectification ratios (> 100) in single-molecule junctions based on a metal-oxide cluster (polyoxometalate), using a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) both at ambient conditions and at low temperature. These rectification ratios are

Orientation‐Controlled Single‐Molecule Junctions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2014
AbstractThe conductivity of a single aromatic ring, perpendicular to its plane, is determined using a new strategy under ambient conditions and at room temperature by a combination of molecular assembly, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) imaging, and STM break junction (STM‐BJ) techniques.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering in Molecular Junctions

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a surface-sensitive vibrational spectroscopy that allows Raman spectroscopy on a single molecular scale. Here, we present a review of SERS from molecular junctions, in which a single molecule or molecules are ...

Quantum interference through gated single-molecule junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss the general form of the transmission spectrum through a molec- ular junction in terms of the Green function of the isolated molecule. By introducing a tight binding method, we are able to translate the Green func- tion properties into ...

Electronic conduction during the formation stages of a single-molecule junction

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2018
Single-molecule junctions are versatile test beds for electronic transport at the atomic scale. However, not much is known about the early formation steps of such junctions.

Carbon-contacted single molecule electrical junctions

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2018
A fully metal-free molecular junction by using carbon fiber as the top electrode, and graphene as the bottom electrode was demonstrated for single molecular junctions, which is retaining long-lived charge excited states and potential for charge storage and manipulation.

Conformational and migrational dynamics of slipped-strand DNA three-way junctions containing trinucleotide repeats

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
DNA three-way junctions are branched structures formed during replication, repair, and recombination, and are involved in models of repeat expansion. Here the authors use single-molecule Förster resonance energy transfer to reveal the dynamics of DNA ...

Vibrationally Induced Two-Level Systems in Single-Molecule Junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Single-molecule junctions are found to show anomalous spikes in dI/dV spectra. The position in energy of the spikes are related to local vibration mode energies. A model of vibrationally induced two-level systems reproduces the data very well.

Controlling the Entropy of a Single-Molecule Junction [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2021
Single molecules are nanoscale thermodynamic systems with few degrees of freedom. Thus, the knowledge of their entropy can reveal the presence of microscopic electron transfer dynamics, that are difficult to observe otherwise. Here, we apply thermocurrent spectroscopy to directly measure the entropy of a single free radical molecule in a magnetic field.
