Fault tolerant DC-link single-phase to single-phase converter

2006 37th IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2006
This paper proposes a fault tolerant ac-ac single-phase converter The proposed system provide compensation for open circuit and short circuit failures occurring in the converter power devices. The fault compensation is achieved by reconfiguring the power converter topology with the help of isolating and connecting devices.

The Single-Phase Induction Motor

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1925
The operation of the single-phase induction motor is presented according to the cross-field theory as distinguished from the theory of oppositely rotating fields. The mathematics used require only a knowledge of algebra and trigonometry and no factors, such as cross-field iron loss and cross-field magnetizing current, are neglected.

Single-Phase Motors

1979
At this point, the reader is reminded of the basic reason why electric energy is mostly generated and transmitted in polyphase form: only in this form can the energy be generated and transmitted at a uniform rate. This fact manifests itself in rotating generators and motors by the presence of the rotating magnetic field.

Single-Phase Tripping

IEEE Power and Energy Magazine, 2008
Reclosers in general, and specifically reclosers with single-phase tripping capability, have the ability to improve distribution system reliability significantly not just on the distribution feeder but also in wind generation, cogeneration, various motor loads, oil wells, agricultural entities, small industrial sites, and at substations that feed ...

Single-phase Motors

1972
The performance of single-phase machines is usually inferior to that of three-phase machines, and their cost, for a given output and speed, is higher. For this reason single-phase motors are normally only used where a three-phase supply is not available and their application is mainly restricted to domestic, office and agricultural purposes.

Single-Phase Rectifiers

1972
The overwhelming advantages of a.c. power generation and distribution create an obvious need for rectifiers to locally convert this a.c. power to d.c. for a multitude of applications. High power requirements usually adopt polyphase rectifiers to provide an even loading of the generating equipment and low ripple.

Single-Phase Simulation

1993
Although single-phase simulation is relatively simple on account of the lack of an explicit temporal representation, it is sufficient for many applications, since temporal relationships are often implicit. In Fig. 30.1, for example, it is obvious without an explicit time representation that the arrows on the materials represent a strict before/after ...

Single-phase motors

1976
Many small a.c. motors will be designed to operate from a single-phase supply and will take the form of single-phase induction motors or a.c. commutator motors. The single-phase squirrel-cage induction motor is the most widely used form of machine but suffers from the disadvantage, noted in chapter 1, that it produces no starting torque.
