This paper presents a decentralized fault detection technique for power distribution systems with resonant grounding. The aim of this paper is to detect single phase to ground faults and identify the faulty feeder within three cycles of the fault occurrence. In the proposed technique, faults are first detected based on the neutral voltage displacement.

Detection of Single-Phase to Ground Faults in Low-Resistance Grounded MV Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2021The Conventional zero-sequence (ZS) overcurrent protection method exhibits poor performance for single-phase to ground faults (SPGFs) with high impedance in low-resistance grounded systems (LRGSs), a type of medium-voltage (MV) distribution system. Hence, in this study, a novel SPGF detection methodology, designed specifically for LRGSs, is proposed ...

Identification of Feeder with Single-Phase Ground Fault
2019 International Conference on Industrial Engineering, Applications and Manufacturing (ICIEAM), 2019Single-phase ground fault in overhead power lines is one of the most usual types of fault in power grids of 6-35 kV. The arc fault generate a spectrum of higher harmonics of voltage and current. This higher harmonics can be the indication of the fault mode. Illegible higher harmonics can be appearing after removing the main harmonic (50 Hz).
