The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The impact of Cs3Bi2Cl9 single crystal growth modality on its symmetry and morphology

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Perovskite single crystals have the potential to design a new path in optoelectronics. Due to the toxicity and stability issue of lead halide perovskites, the substitution of lead is a challenge.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Study on Spectral Properties and Mid-Infrared Laser Performance of Er, La:CaF2 Crystals

open access: yesCrystals
Er3+-doped fluorite crystals, including CaF2 and SrF2, are considered as attractive laser gain materials in the mid-infrared (MIR) region with merits of high laser efficiency as well as low doping concentration.

Single Crystal Diffuse Neutron Scattering

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2018
Diffuse neutron scattering has become a valuable tool for investigating local structure in materials ranging from organic molecular crystals containing only light atoms to piezo-ceramics that frequently contain heavy elements.

Single-crystal NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesProgress in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, 2021
Single-crystal (SC) NMR spectroscopy is a solid-state NMR method that has been used since the early days of NMR to study the magnitude and orientation of tensorial nuclear spin interactions in solids. This review first presents the field of SC NMR instrumentation, then provides a survey of software for analysis of SC NMR data, and finally it highlights

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
