Self-rounding fabrication of micro-cylindrical electrode arrays and comparative EDM performance in single-crystal and polycrystalline nickel-based superalloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Nickel-based superalloys are widely used in aerospace and energy systems, and their surfaces often feature high-density micro-hole arrays for cooling or fluidic functions.

Deformable Eutectic Alloy With Near‐Theoretical Yield Strength via Hierarchical Nanoscale Multiphases and Sessile Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CoCrFeNiTa0.4 eutectic high‐entropy alloy achieves a near‐theoretical yield strength of 2.6 GPa with 13.6% plasticity. This breakthrough stems from a hierarchical nanostructure (FCC‐Laves lamellae with L12/D022 precipitates), which alleviates the inter‐phase modulus/hardness mismatch through synergistic strengthening and toughening, guiding the ...

Outstanding 1200 °C Oxidation Resistance in a Novel Multi‐Principal Element Alloy via Lattice Distortion‐Induced Diffusion Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The unique lamellar structure of the eutectic alloy promotes selective oxidation of Al initially, while lattice distortion‐induced diffusion suppression slows oxide growth during steady state. Combining these strategies, a Multi‐Principal Element Alloy with excellent oxidation resistance at 1200℃ was designed.

Deformation‐Induced Formation of Stray Grains in Additive Manufacturing of Single Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stray grain formation severely limits the additive manufacturing of single‐crystal alloys. By integrating in situ synchrotron techniques, ex situ characterization, and multi‐scale multi‐physics modeling, the authors reveal that stray grains originate from dislocations at the solid‐liquid interface, rather than thermal supercooling in conventional ...

High-temperature creep of single-crystal nickel-based superalloy : microstructural changes and effects of thermal cycling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Creep tests were performed on MC2 single crystal superalloy at 950°C/200 MPa and 1150°C/80 MPa under isothermal and thermal cycling conditions with a tensile axis along the [0 0 1] direction. It was found that the thermal cycles strongly affect the creep

Inverse Design of Alloys via Generative Algorithms: Optimization and Diffusion within Learned Latent Space

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work presents a novel generative artificial intelligence (AI) framework for inverse alloy design through operations (optimization and diffusion) within learned compact latent space from variational autoencoder (VAE). The proposed work addresses challenges of limited data, nonuniqueness solutions, and high‐dimensional spaces.

An energy-based low-cycle fatigue life evaluation method considering anisotropy of single crystal superalloys

open access: yesPropulsion and Power Research, 2022
The crystal orientation significantly affects the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) properties of single crystal (SC) superalloys. However, the orientation-dependent LCF life model with precise mechanisms and strong applicability is still lacking.
