Mode dispersion and delay characteristics of optical waveguides using equivalent TL circuits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A new analysis leading to an exact and efficient algorithm is presented for calculating directly and without numerical differentiation the mode dispersion characteristics of cylindrical dielectric waveguides of arbitrary refractive-index profile. The new

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Strain sensor based on gourd-shaped single-mode-multimode-single-mode hybrid optical fibre structure

open access: yes, 2017
A fibre-optic strain sensor based on a gourd-shaped joint multimode fibre (MMF) sandwiched between two single-mode fibres (SMFs) is described both theoretically and experimentally.

Experience With Performing Rheocarna Therapy via the Single‐Needle Method for Treatment of Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study investigated the safety and efficacy of single‐needle Rheocarna therapy for chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) with wounds. Methods Six patients with CLTI involving ulcers unresponsive to revascularization underwent single‐needle Rheocarna treatment.

An SMS (single mode – multi mode – single mode) fiber structure for vibration sensing

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2017
We describe an SMS (single mode - multi mode - single mode) fiber structure to be used in a vibration sensing system. The fiber structure was fabricated by splicing a section (about 300 mm in length) of a step index multi mode fiber between two single mode fibers obtained from a communication grade fiber patchcord.

Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

FEM analysis of a highly birefringent modified slotted core circular PCF for endlessly single mode operation across E to L telecom bands

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications
This paper describes an exceptionally high birefringent modified slotted core circular photonic crystal fiber (MSCCPCF). At the 1.55 μm telecommunication wavelength, the proposed fiber structure aims to achieve exceptional birefringence performance ...

Quasi-single mode operated few-mode fiber for distributed acoustic sensing

open access: yes, 2019
We experimentally report a proof-of-concept demonstration of a few-mode fiber (FMF) based distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) design, aiming at upgrading the capabilities of the typical DAS that employs the standard single mode fiber (SMF).

Single-Mode Lasing with Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking from a Perovskite Microdisk Dimer

open access: yes, 2023
In this study, we design novel single-mode lasers based on non-Hermitian physics to avoid inadequate mode performance when the free spectral range is small.
