The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Appraising the Organisation and Management of Distance Learners' Support Services: A Study of some Nigerian Universities

open access: yesWest African Journal of Open and Flexible Learning, 2013
In recent times, great emphasis has been placed on the quality of learner support services provided by distance educators. This is a result of its recognition as an integral and essential component of the distance learning system.

Single-mode wave decay

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas
The usual approach on electrostatic wave decay process for a weak beam-plasma system considers two different wave modes interplaying, the Langmuir and ion-sound mode. In the present paper, a single-mode approach is shown to be feasible for conditions where the respective dispersion relations undergo topological changes.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Single-mode fiber length for wavefront filtering

open access: yes, 2008
Stellar nulling interferometry offers the possibility of direct imaging of extrasolar planets necessary for the detection of extra-terrestrial life. Achieving optimum performance from the interferometers requires that the wavefronts of light reaching the

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Numerical solution of single mode gyrotron equation

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2004
In this paper we study numerical problems arising in solving the single mode gyrotron equation. Using the method of finite differences analytical and numerical solutions are obtained.

An experimental analysis on the performance of single mode-multimode-single mode and multimode- single mode-multimode fiber optic sensor [PDF]

open access: yesMalaysian Journal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, 2019
A cost effective and simple fabrication process for Mach Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) fiber based sensor has been proposed based on single mode-multimode-single mode structure and multimode-single mode-multimode. These proposed structures employed a standard fusion arc splicing by varying the length of sensing region instead of the structures.

1.06 µm picosecond pulsed, normal dispersion pumping for generating efficient broadband infrared supercontinuum in meter-length single-mode tellurite holey fiber with high Raman gain coefficient

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate efficient broadband infrared supercontinuum generation in meter-length single-mode small-core tellurite holey fiber. The fiber is pumped by 1.06µm picosecond pulses in the normal dispersion region.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
