Single-mode waveguides for GRAVITY

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The second generation Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) instrument GRAVITY is a two-field infrared interferometer operating in the K band between 1.97 and 2.43 µm with either the four 8 m or the four 1.8 m telescopes of the Very Large Telescope (VLT).

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Mode Suppression in Injection Locked Multi-Mode and Single-Mode Lasers for Optical Demultiplexing

open access: yesPhotonics, 2019
Optical injection locking has been demonstrated as an effective filter for optical communications. These optical filters have advantages over conventional passive filters, as they can be used on active material, allowing them to be monolithically ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Robust strain sensor based on multimode interference in single-mode–multimode–single-mode fiber structure

open access: yes, 2018
Single-mode–multimode–single-mode (SMS) structure is demonstrated as a strain sensor. The device is fabricated by splicing a section of multimode optical fiber (MMF) in between single-mode fibers (SMFs).

Single-Mode Emission in InP Microdisks on Si Using Au Antenna

open access: yes, 2022
An important building block for on-chip photonic applications is a scaled emitter. Whispering gallery mode cavities based on III–Vs on Si allow for small device footprints and lasing with low thresholds.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
