We report a case of multiple congenital anomalies in a female newborn infant, born to themother from a hill tribe. The Doppler echocardiography of the baby showed large atrial septaldefect amounting to single atrium, atretic left atrioventricular valve ...

Mechanical Circulatory Support for Single Ventricle Failure
Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) for failing single ventricle (SV) physiology is a complex and challenging problem, which has not yet been satisfactorily addressed.

Though the current staged surgical strategy for palliation of single ventricle heart disease, culminating in a Fontan circulation, has increased short-term survival, mounting evidence has shown that the single ventricle, especially a morphologic right ...

Septation of the single ventricle: Revisited [PDF]
Septation of a single ventricle into 2 functioning ventricles can provide an alternative to the Fontan operation. However, early experiences with septation reported unacceptable morbidity and mortality. The present study selected only those patients with large volume-overloaded hearts, 2 well-functioning atrioventricular valves, and an absence of ...

The Hemodynamics of Common (or Single) Ventricle [PDF]
Data from 43 patients with common ventricle for whom satisfactory hemodynamic data are available are presented; these form 3.2% of the patients with congenital heart disease studied by means of catheterization at the Mayo Clinic. Selective biplane angiocardiography is essential for diagnosis of common ventricle.

ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Transplantation in the single ventricle population [PDF]
The single ventricle patient population comprises the most complex cohort presenting to the cardiac transplant team, in terms of demographics, anatomic substrate, and unique physiology. It is also the most rapidly growing diagnostic group presenting for heart transplantation.
