Fingerprint Sub-Classification and Singular Point Detection
International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 1998This paper presents a novel approach to fingerprint singular point detection. Singular points (cores and deltas) are used for fingerprint classification, sub-classification and registration. This method exploits the stability of the directional field pattern extracted from singular point regions at different resolution levels.

Robust detection of singular points for fingerprint recognition
Seventh International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2003. Proceedings., 2003Detection of fingerprint singular points is an important and difficult task in automatic fingerprint classification and identification. In this paper, a robust method for the detection of such points is presented. An improved Poincare index, the orientation variation measure and the use of gray value variance, and combination of them are proposed for ...

Singular point detection in multidomain samples
Journal of Applied Physics, 1993In the present work the problem of singular point detection (SPD) is examined in the case of multidomain crystallites. As is known, a uniaxial polycrystalline ferromagnet displays a sharp peak in the second derivative of magnetization M with respect to magnetic field H versus H, located at the anisotropy field H=HA.

Curvature-Based Singular Points Detection
2001Singular Points Detection or more commonly known as 'Core Points Detection', is an important process in most fingerprint verification and identification algorithms for locating reference points for minutiae matching and classification. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for singular points detection, which is based on scale-space analysis and ...

Review of singular point detection techniques
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2004The singular point detection (SPD) is the most powerful technique for the study of singularities in magnetization curves of polycrystalline samples. According to the SPD theory, the reversible magnetization curve of a polycrystalline ferromagnetic sample has an hidden singularity that shows up in the derivative, the derivative order depending on the ...

A multiresolution method for singular points detection in fingerprint images
ISCAS'99. Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems VLSI (Cat. No.99CH36349), 2003The detection of the singular points (cores and deltas) is the most important task of the fingerprint image classification operation. We propose a new method of detection and localization of singular points in a fingerprint image. Dealing with a multiresolution representation of both the orientation field and the certainty level, the proposed method ...

A Modified Singular Point Detection Algorithm
2008Automatic Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) are widely used for personal identification due to uniqueness of fingerprints. Fingerprint reference points are useful for fingerprint classification and even for fingerprint matching algorithms. In this paper, we present a modified algorithm for singular points detection (cores and deltas) with high ...

A New Algorithm for Detecting Singular Points in Fingerprint Images
2009 Third International Conference on Genetic and Evolutionary Computing, 2009The singular points of a fingerprint image contain important information, so it is very significant to detect the position, number and type of singular points. The Poincare Index method can’t accurately detect the singular points in arch fingerprints and some tented arch fingerprints.
