Singular values of two-parameter families λ((bz − 1)/z)μ and λ(z/(bz − 1))η

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2017
The singular values of two kinds of two-parameter families of functions (i) fλ,μ(z)=λ((bz−1)/z)μ and fλ,μ(0) = λ(ln b)μ, μ > 0, (ii) gλ,η(z)=λ(z/(bz−1))η and gλ,η(0) = λ/(ln b)η, η > 0; λ∈ℝ∖{0}, z∈ℂ, b > 0, b ≠ 1 are described.

On approximating functions of the singular values in a stream [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the forty-eighth annual ACM symposium on Theory of Computing, 2016
For any real number $p > 0$, we nearly completely characterize the space complexity of estimating $\|A\|_p^p = \sum_{i=1}^n σ_i^p$ for $n \times n$ matrices $A$ in which each row and each column has $O(1)$ non-zero entries and whose entries are presented one at a time in a data stream model. Here the $σ_i$ are the singular values of $A$, and when $p

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Development of a Method for Selection of Effective Singular Values in Bearing Fault Signal De-Noising

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2016
Singular value decomposition (SVD) is a widely used and powerful tool for signal extraction under noise. Noise attenuation relies on the selection of the effective singular value because these values are significant features of the useful signal ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Computing Structured Singular Values for Sturm-Liouville Problems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analysis and Applications, 2019
In this article we present numerical computation of pseudo-spectra and the bounds of Structured Singular Values (SSV) for a family of matrices obtained while considering matrix representation of SturmLiouville (S-L) problems with eigenparameter-dependent

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Perturbation Results for Singular Values [Elektronisk resurs] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The singular values of a perturbed complex-valued matrix A+\epsilon B + O(\epsilon^2) are shown to have singular values of the form \sigma_i(\epsilon)=\sigma_i + k_i\epsilon + O(\epsilon^2). Explicit expressions for the k_i coefficients are derived.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...
