Toward Comprehensive Climate Action: Assessing Mitigation Approaches Across Canadian Municipalities

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Local governments are widely regarded as key leaders in the global response to climate change. Understanding if and how municipalities commit to climate mitigation is crucial for assessing their contribution to global emission‐reduction goals and identifying barriers to effective climate transitions.

Addressing Barriers to Fair Community Participation in Mangrove Carbon Credit Projects: Insights From Thailand

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thailand has announced ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including a programme that allows private companies to earn carbon credits from protecting and restoring mangroves. In 2023, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) began enrolling local communities and private firms in this scheme.

Global hotspots of particulate organic carbon losses under climate change

open access: yesNature Communications
Soil organic carbon (SOC) comprises particulate (POC) and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC), which differ in formation, stabilization, and loss mechanisms. While the current global distribution of POC and MAOC is characterized, their vulnerability

Comparative Performance Analysis of Various Flat Plate Solar Collectors Incorporating Spiral and Square Arrangement of Circular Type Riser Tube

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

Patterns and Drivers of Recent Peatland Carbon Accumulation in Northeastern Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Northern peatlands are an important component of the global carbon (C) cycle and have been a net sink of atmospheric C during the Holocene. Under current climate warming conditions, the future sink-source balance of these peatlands is uncertain.

Marine Macroalgae as a Safe Healthy Food While Meeting Food Security Challenges Arising From Climate Changes

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Planned harvesting and processing of marine macroalgae could meet future global food needs and mitigate fuel‐originated carbon dioxide responsible for climate change. Microalgal foods are nutritious and safe. The utilization of macroalgae would avoid environmental problems arising from the release of overgrowing macroalgae caused by heatwaves, which ...

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,
