Linking rhizosphere bacterial succession to metabolite dynamics unravels the underlying survival strategies of desert ephemeral plants

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Desert ephemerals complete rapid life cycles to survive aridity, yet the ontogenetic coordination of below‐ground rhizosphere interactions with above‐ground resource allocation remains unclear.

Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

Environmental Total Factor Productivity and the Cost‐Effectiveness of GHG Emission Reduction: The Case of Crop Production in China

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT China's diversified agricultural policies have effectively improved both the yield and environmental performance of the crop sector. Quantifying productivity trends and their drivers is key to formulating strategies for high‐quality and low‐carbon crop development.

Policy Evaluation for Climate Mitigations in the European Agricultural Sector—A Comparison of Policy Options at Micro and Macro Level

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to discuss the micro‐ and macro‐outcomes for the standard neoclassical carbon tax (whose burden falls on the producers) versus the implication of a budget neutral, performance‐based EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) focusing on non‐CO2 emission (N2O and CH4, measured in CO2eq) reduction, especially in the ...

Emission Reporting for Agriculture: Frameworks and Metrics Matter

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Frameworks and metrics that reliably describe agricultural emission sources and carbon sinks are critical to the formulation of cost‐effective mitigation investment. This study identifies and compares three distinct emission reporting frameworks across metrics of total emissions and emissions intensity.
