A Review of Ceramic Sintering and Suggestions on Reducing Sintering Temperatures [PDF]

open access: possibleAdvanced Performance Materials, 1997
Theories and applications associated with sintering of ceramics and reducing of sintering temperature are reviewed. The whole sintering process is divided into three sub-processes as powder preparation, compaction and sintering, and each sub-process is discussed in terms of its possible contribution to the reducing of sintering temperature.

The sintering process

Metallurgical Reviews, 1967
AbstractThe sintering process has a special importance for three technical disciplines: powder metallurgy, ceramics, and the agglomeration of ore fines (pelletising). All these methods have been operated empirically for some time, without obtaining a deeper insight into the nature of the process.

Sintering in Laser Sintering

JOM, 2016
Laser sintering is a popular additive manufacturing technology, particularly for service parts. Invented by C. Deckard in the mid-1980s, the approach of using a laser to densify a powder bed selectively has been extensively researched and has been applied to metals, ceramics, polymers and composites.

Sintering behaviour and sinter properties of phosphorite

Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy, 2014
AbstractPhosphorite is the main raw material used in the production of phosphorus in chemical industries. Given the decrease in the supply of high-grade phosphorite lump ore, an agglomeration process must be performed for the phosphorite concentrate after beneficiation.

Sintering and Densification; New Techniques: Sinter Forging

Key Engineering Materials, 1998
In this chapter pressure assisted sintering methods will be described. Attention will mainly be paid to sinter forging as a die-wall free uniaxial pressure sintering technique, where large creep strains are possible. Sinter forging is an effective tool to reduce sintering temperature and time and to obtain a nearly theoretically dense ceramic.

Effect of the Parameters of the Sintering Operation on the Productivity of Sintering Machines and the Quality of the Sinter

Metallurgist, 2003
eter affects the productivity of the sintering machine and the strength properties of the sinter, and it is particularly important for charges that contain large amounts of fine concentrates. At the sinter plants of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine (MMK) – which uses the simplest existing scheme for processing the sinter cake – the yield and ...

Fundamentals of Sintering: Solid State Sintering

2022
The phenomena responsible for Solid State Sintering and for the evolution of the microstructure during the process are described. After the introduction, the second section introduces sintering driving force and mechanisms. The third section covers sintering of prior cold compacted powders. The fourth section describes the sintering dimensional change.

Dependence of sinter strength on the sintering rate

Steel in Translation, 2011
The dependence of the final sinter yield and its drum strength on the sintering rate is investigated statistically by correlation and regression analysis. With increase in sintering rate, the sinter yield increases, while it strength declines.

Sintering of Industrial Mullites in the Presence of Magnesia as a Sintering Aid

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2000
The sinterability of two industrial mullite powders, in the presence of MgO as a sintering aid, was investigated. A glassy phase, which was generated during preparation, was present in both powders; this glassy phase had a strong influence on sintering, depending on its content, composition, and spatial distribution.

Master Sintering Curve: A Practical Approach to Sintering

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1996
One of the ultimate objectives for sintering studies is to be able to predict densiflcation results under different thermal histories for a given processing method. It has been reported that the geometric parameters related to sintering often are functions only of density for a given powder and green‐body process, provided that one diffusion mechanism ...
