Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Maximum Fluidized Bed Boiler Temperature Determination for Coal–Biomass Combustion Condition Through Ash Area Reduction Technique

open access: yesEnergies
The residue of the so-called fibrous seed from the açai fruit represents 70% of the mass of the fruit and has potential for useful energy generation. Evaluating and treating the residue as a renewable fuel offers both economic and environmental benefits,

The Sintering Process in Snow [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 1966
The growth of bonds between snow grains or ice spheres has been variously attributed to surface diffusion, volume diffusion, and evaporation–condensation. To distinguish among these possible mechanisms the unconfined compressive strength of two groups of snow samples was determined as a function of time.

Process Phenomena and Material Properties in Selective Laser Sintering of Polymers: A Review

open access: yesMaterials, 2021
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is a powder bed fusion technology that uses a laser source to melt selected regions of a polymer powder bed based on 3D model data. Components with complex geometry are then obtained using a layer-by-layer strategy.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...
