An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

An Epidemic of Respiratory and Ocular Infections Caused by the Reemergence of a Recombinant Human Adenovirus, the Novel Type HAdV‐B114 (P7H3F3)

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Human adenoviruses of species B (HAdV‐B) can cause upper respiratory tract infections and conjunctivitis, but also severe lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI). Although HAdV‐associated LRTI are non‐notifiable in Germany, typing data of our Adenovirus Reference Laboratory indicated an HAdV‐B3 epidemic in 2023, with 67 samples initially ...

The Significance of Subperiosteal Abscess Volume in Acute Mastoiditis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 7, Page 2513-2520, July 2025.
Both needle aspiration and I&D are safe methods to reduce the infective and inflammatory load of subperiosteal abscess due to acute mastoiditis and provide pus for culture. Higher volumes (~3 cm3 and more) should be managed initially with cortical mastoidectomy since the risk of no improvement following needle aspiration or I&D is higher.
