SiPM readout electronics

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2019
Abstract Due to the peculiar characteristics of SiPM sensors in terms of equivalent capacitance, gain and fast rise-time response, in several applications classic readout solutions for radiation detectors are not able to provide optimal performance. Thus, several ad hoc readout approaches have been developed to fully exploit the favourable features ...

Segmented Digital SiPM

2019 IEEE 62nd International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2019
A digital silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) using segmentation technique is designed, simulated and fabricated in the AMS 0.35 µm SiGe BiCMOS process. The digital SiPM is intended for photon counting applications. The digital SiPM consists of 16 avalanche photodiodes (APD) each with active area of 24 µm x 24 µm arranged in a 4x4 array with series 236 kΩ ...

Optical crosstalk in SiPMs

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2020
Abstract It was observed that the optical crosstalk probability ( C T ) of the silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) of the electronics in all the AMIGA muon counter modules installed at the Pierre Auger Observatory was reduced by a factor of ∼ 2 . 68 after its deployment. This effect motivated the study of the optical crosstalk in SiPMs,

Readout of digital SiPMs

2018 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference Proceedings (NSS/MIC), 2018
This work describes a detector system using digital silicon photomultipliers in a hybrid approach. It allows for the individual readout of each pixel by utilizing an active quenching and recharging circuit. Each pixel electronic occupies the same area as the sensor pixel, limiting the space of the electronics to 50 × 50 µm².

SiPM readout prototype board performance

Journal of Instrumentation, 2020
Currently, some upcoming experiments plan to use the muon tagging systems based on the fast plastic scintillators with the readout via the wavelength shifter fibers and SiPM as the photo detector. The goal of these systems is to detect cosmic muons in the energy range from 0.1 to 1 GeV with high efficiency under high background counting rate. The paper

Correction of SiPM temperature dependencies

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2009
The performance of a high granular analogue hadronic calorimeter (AHCAL) using scintillator tiles with built-in Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) readout is reported. A muon beam is used for the minimum ionizing particle (MIP) based calibration of the single cells. The calibration chain including corrections for the non-linearity of the SiPM is presented.

Studies of SiPM and Scintillation Plates with waveshifter fiber and SiPM readout

2009 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record (NSS/MIC), 2009
We have been studying the performance of SiPM devices and Scintillation Plates read out with SiPM. Applications are for the detection of ionizing radiation, for example in particle and nuclear physics experiments. Results are presented on performance of the SiPM using pulsed LEDs and scintillating tiles excited by radioactive sources, and for SiPM ...

SiPM-based Compton cameras

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2019
Abstract Compton cameras have been developed for almost fifty years in various fields (astronomy, medical imaging, safety and industrial inspections, etc.), employing different types of detectors. Their potential use has gained renewed interest with the emergence of high light yield scintillator crystals and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs).
