Genetic divergence and evidence of human-mediated translocation of two-fingered sloths (Choloepus hoffmanni) in Costa Rica. [PDF]

open access: yesEvol Appl, 2020
Abstract Sloths are notoriously slow and consequently have limited dispersal ability, which makes them particularly vulnerable to the effects of habitat fragmentation and degradation. Sloths in Costa Rica are considered of conservation concern due to habitat loss, livestock production and increasing urbanization. Reintroductions from rescue centres are

Infection with Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis is common in tropical lowland habitats: Implications for amphibian conservation. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2019
We conducted a survey testing for the fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) in four lowland sites in Costa Rica to identify local host‐pathogen dynamics and to describe the abiotic environment for this pathogen. We found evidence that lowland study sites exhibit enzootic dynamics with low infection intensity and moderate to high ...

Population structure of a vector of human diseases: Aedes aegypti in its ancestral range, Africa. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2018
We have detected distinct genetic structuring of populations of the major vector of human diseases Aedes aegypti in its native range, Africa. Both isolation by distance and long‐range anthropogenic migration are observed. Strong evidence indicates Angola populations gave rise to the species outside Africa.
