This study established the first fecal hormonal reference values (P4/E2) for the Greater Caribbean manatee. Using non‐invasive ELISA, the authors found no significant differences between mature and immature females, highlighting that long‐term monitoring and ultrasounds are essential to fully understand their complex reproductive cycles.

ABSTRACT The American manatee (Trichechus manatus) requires freshwater mainly from rivers and springs to maintain osmoregulatory balance in saline environments. However, in Brazil's semi‐arid Potiguar Basin, manatees now rely solely on submarine freshwater springs because hypersaline estuaries have become unsuitable sources of freshwater.

Early microglial response to amyloid plaques drives sleep loss in Alzheimer's disease
Abstract INTRODUCTION Sleep disruption is an early feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the cellular mechanisms linking amyloid pathology to sleep loss remain unclear. METHODS Electroencephalography/electromyography (EEG/EMG) recordings, quantitative EEG analysis, and sleep deprivation were performed in APPswe/PSEN1dE9 (APP/PS1) mice at different ...

How to remove the brain of Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis) calves preserving the skull for morphological analysis [PDF]
Although there are several studies on the skull of Amazonian manatees (Trichechus inunguis) to better understand the anatomy, physiology, and behavior of these animals, the analysis of the brain has been often neglected.

ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim Spatiotemporal and taxonomic sampling bias in biodiversity occurrence data poses critical challenges for robust ecological inference, species distribution models (SDMs), and conservation planning. Despite the exponential growth in global biodiversity records over recent decades, these biases persist.

Food Plants Eaten by Amazonian Manatees (Trichechus inunguis, Mammalia : Sirenia)
To determine the feeding habits of the Amazonian manatee Trichechus inunguis in some Central Amazonian rivers and lakes, we compared plant epidermis found in the stomach contents and/or faeces of animals with a reference collection of plants present in ...
