The sound absorption of sisal fiber and sisal fiber/polyethylene film sheets: Morphology and structure

Polymer Composites, 2017
Sisal fiber (SF) and waterborne polyurethane adhesive were used to prepare SF‐based sound absorption material through hot press molding. SF with elastic polyethylene (PE) film interlayers was also fabricated as a new type of sound absorbing composite. The effects of SF treatment methods and PE film on sound absorption coefficient were evaluated.

Sisal fiber‐reinforced green composites: Effect of ecofriendly fiber treatment

Polymer Composites, 2017
This research endeavor explores the effect of economical and environment‐friendly treatment of sisal fibers, prior to their incorporation into poly‐lactic acid (PLA). Biocomposites incorporating sisal fibers (30% [w:w]) treated with sodium bicarbonate (10% [w:v]) aqueous solution for varying time periods (24, 72, 120, and 168 h) were developed using ...

Some structural aspects of sisal fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1976
A critical account has been presented of the recent investigation on the chemical modification of lignocellulosic sisal fibers. The molecular structure of the paracrystalline cellulose, which forms the major constituent of the fiber, was studied by x-ray diffraction technique.

Rheological characterization of HDPE/sisal fiber composites

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2007
AbstractThe present paper summarizes an experimental study on the molten viscoelastic behavior of HDPE/sisal composites under steady and dynamic mode. Variations of the melt viscosity and die swell of the composites with an increase in shear rate, fiber loading, and coupling agent concentration have been investigated using capillary rheometer.

Preparation and characterization of benzylated sisal fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2003
AbstractSisal fibers were benzylated under different conditions and were characterized with infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The benzylation reaction was monitored by the mass gain as a function of the reaction time. In the first stage, there was a mass loss associated with the loss of lignin
