Flexural Strengthening of RC Beams with Sisal Fiber Composites and Sisal Fiber Rods

Materials Science Forum, 2016
The present study is conducted to examine the effectiveness of sisal fiber in flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams. In order to obtain this objective, two different strengthening configurations are adopted (use of sisal fiber composites and use of sisal fiber rods). A total of five flexural strengthened reinforced concrete beams are

The sound absorption of sisal fiber and sisal fiber/polyethylene film sheets: Morphology and structure

Polymer Composites, 2017
Sisal fiber (SF) and waterborne polyurethane adhesive were used to prepare SF‐based sound absorption material through hot press molding. SF with elastic polyethylene (PE) film interlayers was also fabricated as a new type of sound absorbing composite. The effects of SF treatment methods and PE film on sound absorption coefficient were evaluated.

Effect of Sisal Fiber Surface Treatments on Sisal Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene (PP) Composites

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Abstract: The Interface of sisal fiber which was treated by using alkali, potassium permanganate, atmospheric plasma and silane reinforced polypropylene composites were investigated by single fiber pull-out testes and surface morphology were studied. The results indicated that the morphological changes observed on the sisal fiber surface were obviously

Preparation and characterization of benzylated sisal fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2003
AbstractSisal fibers were benzylated under different conditions and were characterized with infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The benzylation reaction was monitored by the mass gain as a function of the reaction time. In the first stage, there was a mass loss associated with the loss of lignin

Mechanical Behavior of Natural Sisal Fibers

Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy, 2010
Natural fibers are gaining a significant amount of attention as reinforcement in composite materials. In this work we present a systematic experimental investigation on the mechanical performance of sisal fibers. Tensile tests were performed and Young’s modulus determined.

Review on Modifications of Sisal Fibers for Textile Applications

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2023
Properties of sisal fibers such as high coarseness and poor drapability made the fibers less suitable in production of conventional textiles compared to synthetic fibers. The environmental consciousness and depletion of petrochemical resources have attracted researchers on investigating the use of natural fibers in the industrial production of ...

Interfacial Characteristics of Sisal Fiber and Polymeric Matrices

The Journal of Adhesion, 2006
Sisal-fiber-reinforced composites, as a class of eco-composites, have attracted much attention from materials scientists and engineers in recent years. In this article, the effects of fiber surface treatment on fiber tensile strength and fiber-matrix interface characteristics were determined by using tensile and single fiber pullout tests, respectively.
