The potential of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to improve soil organic carbon in agricultural ecosystems: A meta‐analytical approach

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 4, Page 1016-1030, April 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) in agroecosystems is a key objective for enhancing agricultural sustainability and mitigating climate change. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can increase yield and provide several other ecosystem services.

Cacao grafting increases crop yield without compromising biodiversity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 579-592, March 2025.
Grafting is a successful approach for rejuvenating old, unproductive cacao trees, enhancing smallholder income opportunities and thus reducing pressure for new deforestation‐based plantations. Grafting briefly reduced arthropod abundance and diversity, but recovered in a short time.

Landscape composition and orchard management effects on bat assemblages and bat foraging activity in apple crops

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Bats are acknowledged as suppliers of essential ecosystem services such as insect pest control in agroecosystems. Little is known, however, on how bat assemblages respond to the gradients imposed by anthropogenic landscapes and farming practices and how these environmental effects translate into changes in bat foraging.

The role of wild palms in agroforestry systems in the Neotropics: A review

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 2200-2227, December 2024.
Abstract Wild palms are among the most important plants in the Neotropics due to their wide distribution, species richness and cultural relevance for humans. In addition to their presence in forests, these plants also occur in anthropogenic systems throughout their range of distribution, but their role in these systems is often overlooked.
