Histone H1 is essential for mitotic chromosome architecture and segregation in Xenopus laevis egg extracts. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
During cell division, condensation and resolution of chromosome arms and the assembly of a functional kinetochore at the centromere of each sister chromatid are essential steps for accurate segregation of the genome by the mitotic spindle, yet the ...

Cell‐Type‐Specific and Variety‐Specific Responses to Salt Stress in Wheat Root Revealed by Single‐Cell Transcriptomics

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinization threatens the yield and quality of wheat. Roots are critical for the salt stress response, yet their cell‐type‐specific mechanisms remain unclear. We conducted the first single‐nucleus RNA sequencing analysis of wheat root tips from salt‐sensitive (CS) and ‐tolerant (DK) varieties under salt stress, profiling 188 270 high ...

Mussel eggs as indicators of mutagen exposure in coastal and estuarine environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The aim of this study was to develop a short-term genotoxicity assay for monitoring the marine environment for mutagens. Based on the developing eggs and embryos of the marine mussel Mytilus edulis, an important pollution indicator species, the test ...

Holocentric Chromosomes of Luzula elegans Are Characterized by a Longitudinal Centromere Groove, Chromosome Bending, and a Terminal Nucleolus Organizer Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The structure of holocentric chromosomes was analyzed in mitotic cells of Luzula elegans. Light and scanning electron microscopy observations provided evidence for the existence of a longitudinal groove along each sister chromatid.

Induction of Synthetic Apomixis in Two Sorghum Hybrids Enables Seed Yield and Genotype Preservation Over Multiple Generations

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Induction of apomixis, or clonal reproduction through seed, could economise commercial hybrid seed production and enable smallholder farmers to save and sow hybrid seed. Here, we demonstrate the synthetic induction of apomixis in two sorghum hybrids and show that the clonal hybrid seed can be maintained across multiple seed generations.

ATM Promotes RAD51-Mediated Meiotic DSB Repair by Inter-Sister-Chromatid Recombination in Arabidopsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Meiotic recombination ensures accurate homologous chromosome segregation during meiosis and generates novel allelic combinations among gametes. During meiosis, DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) are generated to facilitate recombination.

Inferring Latent States and Refining Force Estimates via Hierarchical Dirichlet Process Modeling in Single Particle Tracking Experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Optical microscopy provides rich spatio-temporal information characterizing in vivo molecular motion. However, effective forces and other parameters used to summarize molecular motion change over time in live cells due to latent state changes, e.g ...

The PagDMG6341–PagWD40–PagPOLD4 Module Coordinates Base Excision Repair in ‘84K’ Poplar (Populus alba × P. glandulosa)

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Base excision repair (BER) is a critical pathway for repairing damaged DNA bases in cells; however, the mechanisms of protein recruitment and interaction in this pathway remain largely unexplored in higher plants. In this study, we used ‘84K’ poplar (Populus alba × P.

RBMX: A Regulator for Maintenance and Centromeric Protection of Sister Chromatid Cohesion

open access: yesCell Reports, 2012
Cohesion is essential for the identification of sister chromatids and for the biorientation of chromosomes until their segregation. Here, we have demonstrated that an RNA-binding motif protein encoded on the X chromosome (RBMX) plays an essential role in

SISTER CHROMATID EXCHANGES IN PHOTOCHEMOTHERAPY

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1977
Sister chromatid exchanges (SCE), presently considered highly sensitive indicators for chromosomal effects of potential mutagens and carcinogens in mammalian cells, were studied in circulating white blood cells from patients with widespread psoriasis who were being treated with 8-methoxy-psoralen and long-wavelength ultraviolet light (UVA) photo ...
